Long walks and paddling are guaranteed in and around Filey – but what else can you do in the area?
Our area is blessed with many attractions: Filey’s picturesque town centre offers lovely shops , pubs and eateries. Why not take a trip back in time and visit Filey’s Fishing Museum, housed in Filey’s oldest building, which has recently won an award at the Moors and Coast Tourism Awards.
Filey has a superb range of shops and holiday attractions, including the Tourist Information Centre on John Street.
Nearby is the recently opened Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park, ideal for families.
There is a lively and active local arts scene, including regular art displays, Filey’s famous Festival (usually in at the end of June, early July) and Filey Folk Festival, the Donkey Derby and the nearby Muston Scarecrow Festival to name but a few events.
Filey’s close connections with maritime traditions is always proudly apparent, with the annual Lifeboat Weekend, the Fishermen’s Choir and a themed path along the promenade celebrating the town’s fishing links. |

You could visit the nearby Stained Glass Centre at Killerby, take a trip to Flamborough and climb to the top of its famous lighthouse.
Bridlington is within easy driving distance to the south, (with good public transport links) and offers a wide range of attractions including Sewerby Hall, and the recently revamped Bridlington Spa, which is attracting top names from pop, rock and jazz.
Scarborough is also a few miles away to the north (again with good public transport links), with its attractive sea front, shops, castle and Sealife Centre.
Scarborough is, like Filey and Bridlington, a seaside resort with a history and a whole host of attractions. Think of the world famous Stephen Joseph Theatre, the historic Spa conference venue, Peasholm Park and the North Bay Railway, and you have come up with just a handful of Scarborough’s great attractions.
The town also has a host of festivals throughout the year, including the Cricket Festival, the Jazz Festival and Beached, a free rock concert which has attracted top notch groups. |
